This project consists of three parts:

  1. front-end interactive network visualization
  2. back-end graph algorithms and databases
  3. theoretical analysis of the architecture and representation of knowledge

The expected products:

  1. Knowledge management: An agile and sustainable graph database of DKU curriculum design, faculty’s research and teaching, and students’ major/track, mentoring, and research interests
  2. Knowledge mapping: A series of visualization of the graph-structured data that helps students and faculty to match interests and promotes innovative conversations and collaborations across disciplines
  3. Mapping → matching: A system to assist academic mentoring/advising matching within DKU and beyond (such as Duke)
  4. Visions: extend the methodology to map the knowledge production of more universities, researchers, and discipline

Here is the plan I have in mind:

  1. Make a demo from the data that Jocky shared with me (please see attached)
  2. Refine the data, for example, have faculty members verify/correct their research keywords
  3. Build a beta version and do a pilot test on DKU's website
  4. Launch our website
  5. Gradually add more features to this knowledge mapping and exploration system
  6. Recruit, train, and lead a team to maintain this projec
